Abortion: Who Decides?

The problem with abortion is not abortion. The problem is that most women aren't given the chance to choose for themselves the fate of their unborn baby and the fate of their own life, their own body. So who decides whether a woman has the right to have an abortion?

Unfortunately, it seems as though most men feel the need to control the lives of women and pass laws that prevent them from having any choice at all. So I guess the underlying question is, why do a lot of men feel the need to have complete control like this?

Maybe it comes from a history of always having the upper hand, the louder voice, the 'I know what's better for all' state of mind. Maybe it comes from pride? Possibly that they're afraid? Insecure? Weak? Some might even say they're "control freaks". Maybe it's a cycle that they can't seem to get out of. Maybe their fathers and their father's father beat it into them that they must stand tall and make the decisions of the house, that they must be the dominant figure.

My question is, is there really any valid reason? No matter who thinks they're right, or just, or have the "word of God on their side", is it up to someone else to decide another persons life?

I believe that as long as women and men constantly compete over who controls who, no one will be happy, healthy, or successful. I'd like to believe that one day men and women are seen as equals, not one dominating the other, but a world where men can decide what's best for themselves, and women can decide what's best for themselves, and parents can decide together what's best for their children and their own future.

  1. Men and women were always meant to be equal, but because culture from the very beginning took its turn for men to overpower women, it has been that way since. It is the way how we chose to deal with it, and because of such a strong birth to the dominancy of most men, it is very difficult to rid our habits. In the end, we all have a right to make our own choices, especially women. In the case of abortion, women will always have their own deepest opinion and (most definitely) deep questioning of what they should do for themselves.
