Feminism: Socrates MethodThe words “Feminism/Feminist” was first created by a French philosopher named Charles Fourier and used to describe all movement that associated with gender equality on women. Being a feminist means someone have to advocate for women’s right on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. They believe in a theory aiming to understand gender inequality and focuses on gender politics, power relations, and sexuality. While providing a critique of these social and political relations, much of feminist theory also focuses on the promotion of women's rights and interests.
The question regarded to Socrates Methods of thinking is: Does all feminist have to believe in equal right among men and women?
The answer may differ. Traditionally speaking feminist’s chief aim is to understand the nature of gender inequality by examining women's social roles and lived experience. However, after decades, some feminist started to have a new view one this issue. The Cool Girl Feminist, as an example, doesn’t insist that men and women should be equal. This group of feminists lay aside all those traditional thought about feminism. They don't even suggest there’s anything wrong with the man-woman hierarchy as it stands. All the Cool Girl demands is that she be seen as an exception. There are many forms of feminist existing and not all of them believe in gender equality.
Shirley, this is a fascinating topic for Socratic thinking. I never thought that anyone would consider themselves a feminist and not believe in equality between genders. Your questioning and reference to Cool Girl Feminists provides great food for thought.
