In the movie Little Miss Sunshine, the characters in the family are all really different and each one of them have their own understanding and their opinions but when they have problems with something no one in the family will reach out to help them instead they will make up something and even try to scold them. They are all self-centered and not willing to listen and understand others. Even not accepting others opinions. However, they had a road trip to California and throughout their trip, there are a lot of weird things happened that require the whole family to work together and overcome their alienation. The last scene when the whole family went up to the stage and dance with olive at the little miss sunshine contest really brings the family together and finally giving courage to everyone to reach out and realize that they shouldn’t be apart from each other and their action really makes a different to olive. Just like the poem from TS Elliot, The Hollow Man, the poem is set during the depression after the WW1 when people are still finding their daily routine and try to get over the fear and also get over with poverty. These people work really hard to find themselves. Just like the characters in the movie trying to find themselves and know what is the point for them to be in this house. It’s a long process that people have to get through but they will feel the joy and excitement when they finally found their way of living and in the movie, the family work together to help olive to overcome her obstacle. Helping others not only make others happy but also making yourselves happy.

I find it interesting how some people think that they can complete more by themselves rather than asking for help. As you mentioned, a lot of people in Little Miss Sunshine were focused on their own goals in life and believed that if others interfered their problems would be amplified. But like you said and what the characters later learned, helping others make both them and you happy.
ReplyDeleteI really like your idea that when people are working together, they tend to be united. In the Little Miss Sunshine, all of those family members realize what is most important to them at the end. Life is about connect, sharing, and understanding.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that people need to accept others idea. There are a lot of people in this world. There is no one will have identical idea in this world. What we need to do is that respect other's idea.
ReplyDeleteI think that authenticity is being yourself and being proud of it but as you said they were self centered. Authenticity does not mean being self centered. It is being yourself but also allowing other to be themselves and accepting that.
