A.I. Advancement or decline?

I think that there are pros and cons on AI, like with anything. AI can help with improving driving safety, reaching medical help to countries who do not have in person specialist doctors, helping those who need something like a caretaker but not necessarily a human, etc. However I do not think AI to an extreme extent, to the point where we are practically making robot humans, is a good thing. We see that technology can learn. And if that is true it can learn not only the good things but the bad. It can be controlled by hackers or start controlling itself. AI lacks emotion which could be problematic in certain situations where it would need empathy or to problem solve if there is, for example, the choice of killing one person or five but if not interfered with it would be the five rather than only one. Having emotion put into AI would mean it would know empathy but also anger. If AI can learn for itself, feel for itself, it can also protect itself or express itself. If it is angry it could pose a threat to whatever or whoever it is angry at. And then we get into the problem so often used for movies. Robots, or AI, taking over the world. Could this be possible? If AI can really learn without our help, become smarter than us, and if we add emotion into the equation that doesn't mean it will be all good. One one hand it could mean kind and caring and helpful technology. On the other hand it could be hacked into or self taught by deep learning AI terrorists. Technology makes us more reliant on the ability to have a phone navigate for us, have information at the touch of a button, or be able to be on the phone non stop. But if we didn't have this technology then we wouldn't know how to read a map, write a letter, or learn the information we so often look up. There are pros and cons to AI and while I think some technology is good, it also poses a lot of potential problems and should be limited before we start making robot humans.

  1. I too am wary of the expansion of technology.I am afraid that it is making us decline in proficiency, making us so dependent on it that we will not know how to drive a car. I also recognize that technology provides us with efficiency and accuracy.

  2. I agree with you that there are pros and cons to AI, in person i think that AI is somehow dangerous to human because people can lose jobs and maybe become less valuable because things can be done by the robots. Even AI are sometimes more reliable than human, there are emotions that robots can give us. We should be really careful with using these technology.

  3. I really like your thoughtful analysis. I think AI is definitely beneficial to human beings in some way. But we need a balance. I should know what kind of AI we can develop and use, and what kind of AI we cannot. We need to have the ability to self-control.

  4. I would say that people should slow down the process of developing A.I.. It takes time for people to have the power to control them. If this technology is used against human, or AI chooses to rebel, then it will expose the society to danger.

  5. I agree that a main problem with AI is the lack of emotions, because how can something that isn't alive have a moral compas? We have miraculously evolved into these beings with empathy over thousands/millions of years, but i still don't think we have the intelligence to put this sense of life into another being.
