Truth can be simply defined as the way the world actually is. However, the things we see and the things we hear may be not true. Sometimes, the facts we know are not the reality, because the truth is concealed by some certain reasons, making it hard to be discovered, as the quote states, “All truth are easy to understand once they are discovers; the point is to discover them”. In the same time, I believe that the quote also states that the truth is sometimes around us, but people try to escape from the reality and the truth, and let themselves believe in the fake facts. Consequently, truth is very esoteric, sometimes unreachable, surprising and unbelievable.
Truth is something that is hard to pursue and controlled by many factors, such as the government and the social limitation. For example, in the Allegory of the Cave, the people in the cave have their necks chained and cannot move, so they can’t see the truth but only see the shadow, which is fake and unreal. Therefore, the truth is hard to discovered, because there are too many limitations for people to seek the truth. Another example can be found in our daily life: the process of college application is very stressful for most of the people. However, how do people know whether it is really stressful or they are just affected by other people’s emotion? Does the stress of college application itself truly exist? The answers of these two questions are undefined, which refers to the truth is esoteric and unreachable. Another example can also be found in the videos, Ted Talk. Sometimes what people see and hear are not true. Our eyes sometimes deceive us: the colors of two squares are the same, but actually they are different. Therefore, the process of finding the truth is difficult and full of obstacles. In the same time, the truth makes people surprised.
On the other hand, I believe that truth is around people in the daily life, but people don’t want to discover them because they have no courage to face the truth and the harsh reality, creating a illusion and self-delusion. In Allegory of Cave, after the prisoner gets the chance to escape from the cave, he finds that he cannot accept the light, which refers to the truth, so he reenters the cave and continues his deluded life. Therefore, the difficulties of discovering and finding the truth is not only because of the limitation the society, but also is because of people’s beliefs and minds. In the article, When Beliefs And Facts Collide, the author indicates that although science gives people the facts, people still overestimate their religious beliefs and lose the ability to discover and receive the truth. They are hard to distinguish the facts and the beliefs, making people confused about the existence of the truth. Moreover, in the Ted Talk, Dan talks about that in people’s daily life, their economic decisions are also influenced and affected by many factors, such as economic prices. Therefore, people’s decision of whether they accept the truth or not also depends on their background information, and they have no ability to get rid of the limitation and beliefs to discover the truth.
In conclusion, truth is paradox. Truth is hard to find and esoteric because there are a lot of factors block people’s way to find the truth. Meanwhile, although truth is around us, we still have no access to it, because of our beliefs and background information. Therefore, truth is esoteric, unreachable and sometimes unbelievable.
"Truth is a paradox!" I like this sentence. Truth is sometimes hard to be discovered while sometimes it is easy to be perceived. The only thing we need to possess in our body is an open mind to accept and perceive the truth around us. Sometimes I just feel like what we're discussing about right now in the blogger is actually a truth:)
ReplyDeleteI love your idea about approach truth is a difficult but surprising process, and your example The Allegory of Coves, really proves that because sometimes people may be afraid of knowing the truth because for those people who have been trapped for their whole life, the reality is like a vaguely shadowed concept.
ReplyDeleteI love how you describe truth as being "esoteric, sometimes unreachable, surprising and unbelievable." Especially if truth is defined as what is real, accurate, etc. as I believe there are so many things in this world and beyond, in ourselves and in others that we will never fully be able to comprehend. For example, I believe that we cannot truly predict what will happen after death since there is no physical truth and no one to relate back to us what they experienced.
ReplyDeleteI like how you said people try and escape the truth. I think in today's life this is evident with the problem with global warming. Though science proves it as true many people choose to believe otherwise, or say that it doesn't matter because God will save all the good people anyways. You mention the government and how it is controlling the truths we see. Elaborating on that, the government has control over what we learn and what we don't learn about situations in the world, aside from information that gets leaked out or hacked into. This makes it difficult, or impossible even, for people to see the truth.
