Your eyes are closed, and the song “I Got You Babe” rings in your ears. The same lyrics greet you at your waking every day, as does the same people and the same events whether this is positive or negative you do not know. You are trapped in an eternal cycle that only lasts twenty-four hours, and as I said before it feels like an eternity.
Luckily, this is not your reality, but I ponder and think what if it was mine? In some ways, my life parallels this scenario that the movie Groundhog Day posed. I wake up at 6.30 every day but instead of the lyrics of “I Got You Babe” I hear the shrill sound of my alarm. I then go through my daily rituals of getting ready for school, work, or whatever else has been in my calendar. I return from my commitments, finish my homework and check off a few other things from my to-do list until the day light is spent. Then I fall asleep until I am greeted by my shrill alarm and repeat my daily rituals. Like Phil from Groundhog Day, I am guilty of falling into an unhealthy mindset, upset that my day is not showing any semblance of progression despite my efforts to help or improve problems. My mood sometimes reflects my disappointment which makes the day feel like it is covered in a gray sheen. Now, I try to accept my days for what they are, but at the same trying to add something different in order to add more color to my days so that I can brighten my mindset. It is a process and I am not perfect, so not every day is going to result in my happiness, but I am working on complete acceptance. Hopefully, I can master this talent in the next ten years like Phil and break out of this cycle.
Micha I really loved your post and I find it to be more personal than your prior ones. You raised a strong realization of how we all have a kind of "routine" we repeat that in a way can be similar to Phil's. It is this same routine that we grow tired of and wish was different, which makes me feel lucky I do not have to repeat the exact same day for an underdetermined period of time.
ReplyDeleteI really like your personal example, this is also what I'm thinking about. Our school life is somehow also similar to Phil repeating the same day again and again. I agree with you that we should try adding something new to our daily life and set a positive mindset that can cheer ourselves up.
ReplyDeleteI relate to this post so much. We really do basically live the same day over and over again, however much like phil, its what we make and change in these routine days that really help us develop and grow as humans.
